MG Saloon Day - 20th July 2008
Another event to add to your diary...
Southmids Sportsters will be having a small display stand at the MG 'M' Group's annual MG Saloon Day gathering on 20th July (the week before MGFest08!). This year, the event is to be held at Lamport Hall (postcode is NN6 9HD) so right on the doorstep for our Northants members and not too far for a day out for many others.
We'll be representing the MGF Register as well as ourselves. Hopefully we'll have a couple of Zeds from our group to tie in with the event.
For more details of the event, including booking forms, venue location, etc. please click here.
As the stand will be a planned display, we would like to try and get a corner of the car park for you to gather in.

Re: MG Saloon Day - 20th July 2008
Will you be parking with the ZS Central crew or us? You're welcome to park on our stand!
Rich.

Re: MG Saloon Day - 20th July 2008
I'm not involved with the ZS Central folks. I'm a member of the MGOC (that's where I found SmS) and visit XPF, theMGZS.co.uk and BritCars. Anyway it would be rude not to park with you guys!

Oh, I thought I saw your name on the 'ZS Central' members list...
Excellent, I'm glad our recent affiliation with the MGOC is paying off already.

Only 12 days to go now... I hope we'll have a few more takers. We need to have ourselves a good display to show off with!

Is there a plan to rendezvous at some way points? I think I will come up the M40, A43 etc.

That's a good point. It's on the North side of Northampton so it may be an idea for a meeting place. I'll give it some thought and get back to you...

I can come on Sunday but can't find a booking form on the M website and prebooking discount is closed. Can I not come then?

Re: MG Saloon Day - 20th July 2008
I wasn't told we had to book! The only thing I knew about was that to qualify for a stand, we had to have three paying cars. Payment can be on the gate as far as I know, so anyone who wants to go can do!

Great, I'll be there.
Do we just tell the guy on the gate that we need to park beside our stand then? And how far away is the Lamport Steam Railway? We could tie Maxine to the rails and then video Stu rescuing her
Cheers

Sounds good to me..... Sixfields???? So, I go along the A43, under the M1, carry on to the roundabout where they have been doing roadworks for ages, then.............

Re: MG Saloon Day - 20th July 2008
Hmmm. Now this is an awkward one. The route that Dave has given is by far the shortest BUT it's going through some of the slowest roads in Northampton! If you forgot the A43 completely and came up through Bicester, Buckingham, etc. then you could come up the A508 past Yardley Gobion (!) and over the M1 at J15, past the Toby Carvery and up that way which would be a much faster route.
I assume that it's just those coming from Oxford direction that will want to meet here as for those in Northampton, Wellingborough, etc. it's in the opposite direction to the venue! I would be quite happy to lead you from the Toby if you wanted though.
As for a meeting place before we go in, there's a pub just a little further up the A508 opposite the turning to Lamport Village where we could gather before going into the Hall grounds. I'm waiting for an email from Patrick to let me know if we're allowed in any earlier as we're setting a stand up, as his colleague who emailed me in his absense thought we all had to go in at the same time. Not that practical!
So what would everyone prefer?

Re: MG Saloon Day - 20th July 2008
Just been playing with routes and I need to point out that if you follow the directions to the given postcode, you'll fly past the venue and end up in the Lamport village! The postcode is correct, but as the Hall is not on a road (it has it's own private driveway and an entrance off the A508 which is usually used for events there) it places the Hall in the middle of a field, with the village being the closest roads. There is an access from the village but I've never known it used for shows... I'm sure there will be plenty of signs!
Rich.
It's a couple of miles away. If you had gone to this event previous years, they held it right next to the railway! I think people didn't really think much of the venue and that's why they moved this time.daved wrote:... how far away is the Lamport Steam Railway? Re: MG Saloon Day - 20th July 2008
I was aware of the slow roads Rich but it is Sunday morning
The Toby is fine with me although a bit in the wrong direction but having a convoy is brilliant I love it - even if there are only the three of us
Let us know what time buddy and I'll be there.
Cheers
