MOT Failure
Well, on Friday I went to get a tax disc for shaggy, and couldn't as my MOT was running out on the 28th Feb!!! So, I phoned round to get an MOT sorted for today, and sadly Shaggy failed....
N/S/F & N/S/R wheel bearings... They both took a major hammering from the way I was driving at North Weald!
Handbrake... Again, took a hammering at North Weald!
Both Headlights... I knew they would be a problem, as the pattern has pretty much gone. Not just the silver on the reflective bowls, but my lenses have gone milky, so need to get 2 new headlights
Emmissions... I didn't have time to put the cat back on!
Noisy exhaust... They actually failed it for a noisy exhaust!!! Can't believe that one!
So, I took the car away and have to sort those things out before I can start work on my special mod. Just got to find time to get it all done and to take it back for a re-test. Unfortunately I was supposed to be going to Wales today to get my new hood fitted, so that is now on hold as well.

Re: MOT Failure
Trade it in for An Le 500. I heard of a brand new one (dealer) going for £12,000 last week!
As my dear old Dad used to say when I complained about the cost. 'You cannot expect to motor for nothing' Didn't help but I knew what he meant.
Doing a few EU trips this year. What I need is a left hooker just for Continental touring.
One can dream!
Good luck Stewart.

Noooooooo - that's just wrong.... V Bad news.
I'd be very happy to go and 'collect' your hood for you if it helps

Re: MOT Failure
Our hood was looking a bit tired last year, gave it the once over with 'Renova' (think that is it without going and looking) it brought it up like new. Did the inside too as it was faded.
The rear screen I have kept looking pretty good with 'Greygate' Our rear plastic window seems thinner than the UK ones (Jap import to NZ then here) Surprising what can be done with a little maintenance. Do have a couple of thin spots though so will have to replace it in time. Never had any leaks at all fortunately.

Re: MOT Failure
Not sure, they were going to test things out, and then probably try printing it whilst I'm there, as I am supposed to be going round the factory to take pictures etc. ready for the magazine article.Rich Stone wrote:Any news on the rear window?
Not sure when I can get there now. It looks like I am going to cheat with getting the work done to my car for passing the MOT, and have it done at MGFCentre, then bring it back for the re-test down here.
So, now having the idea that the hood could be shipped to MGFC for them to fit for me at the same time, and then arrange to go to BAS at a later date in the year. Not sure though, will see what happens.

Re: MOT Failure
Definitely! It was on the BAS display at Stoneleigh and getting alot of attention, with Stewart trying to dissuade people from touchng it. Just hope that once it's fitted an unfriendly bird doesn't dispatch anything whilst flying over. Not exactly an easy colour/pattern to restore and I don't think it'll fit in the washing machine...dressur wrote:I'm sure it'll look very special!

Re: MOT Failure
I shall re-fit my old exhaust and cat, and then swap it back after the MOT!
Just got quote back for MGFC to do the work on my car! Parts alone are over £400, and so with fitting it's gonna be over £600.... I spent £650 last month on it, plus the 4 new tyres, the special mod, the AP callipers, and the £650 for the new hood I was supposed to get yesterday... I'm officially broke now! I've spent loads more in the last few weeks than the car is actually worth.
So, deadly serious now about having a brand new, never been used, still in wrapping TT MK3 for sale for the grand sum of £350. First person to offer me the asking price gets it. It is for TF fitment, but can be fitted to early F with the use of an adapter pipe. I'll even get the thing polished for the lucky new owner.

Re: MOT Failure
I think Rich had he easiest idea
Thats a lot of money you have spent the last 2 months, we going to have to have a whip for your beers on the 15th?
See now i was interested in the Exhaust last week, however now committed to something else which is being done this weekend

Re: MOT Failure
Yeah, I didn't really want to sell it, but having 3 exhausts for one car is a bit excessive, and I need to free up some cash!

Re: MOT Failure
Fair enough!
Where did you get your 3 inch finishers for your MK2 from?

Re: MOT Failure
I didn't, they were an option at the time of the exhaust being ordered. Not many had them, but I know of 2 others that do.

Re: MOT Failure
Stew - sorry to hear the bad news mate, it's an expensive game this!
Can you borrow the headlamps from your Mrs' F just for the re-test? you then have another year to spread the costs of the headlights!
At least that way you can get a ticket and tax???

He'd have to find himself a Mrs first!! Probably quicker to do it the proper way!!
