This kind of Links to my last Thread, but what are the signs of an old coolant?

Are there any signs of a water pump failing? other than water loss!

I'm not sure about how to spot old coolant, but I'd guess the colour etc would go off.

As regards the waterpump, if by failure you mean a leak then I guess some dried coolant marks around that area (unless its one fitted with the evaporation chamber) as well as the loss of coolant.

If you're talking failure as in not spinning / pumping then I guess the temp would increase, as the coolant flow would not be great around the block. I'd also check the resevoir with the engine running and check you're getting flow in from the top pipe as that would indicate coolant was flowing OK.

Having said all that I'm no mechanic, just a hobbiest when it comes to these cars!

Hope its nothing serious.

no nothing serious i was just intrigued as to if there were any particuar signs.

plus i also appear to have a degree of seperation going on in my coolant!

Its still cooling fine and no loss or anything, but it must be breaking down or something, anyway will be driving to Manor Garage i think this week after work to see them and more than likely be booking it in there, unless Rish comes back with some thing else from Clifton lane
