Flashing engine warning light

Flashing engine warning light
On the way home tonight in the Trophy the engine warning light started flashing
The car was running fine but I pulled over and let it idle but couldn't hear any strange noises.
Oil and coolant levels were OK. So I switched the engine back on and no warning light. I drove home normally and it stayed off.
What was that all about then?

Re: Flashing engine warning light
Usually because one of the billions of sensors on these 'modern' engines has thrown a wobbly or had a reading outside of it's limits. I had this on my S-type, once due to a knock sensor and once because an air filter collapsed and lead to comparative over-fueling.
It will usually go away after a couple of duty cycles if it is an erroneous reading, otherwise it will reappear at some time in which case it's a T4 test to identify the stored code (though sometimes it doesnt store the code!)
Life was easier when all you had to do was check points plugs and condensers

Flashing EML usually indicates a misfire being detected. It really needs a diagnostic check to find out what's going on-I now work in a Vauxhall dealership equipped with ex-Rover technicians & T4-let me know if we can be of service (at SmS preferential rates ).

Thanks mate. It hasn't happened again but if it does I'll give you a shout.
