EVERYTHING is original in the red vessel until i got it!
I think thats where the noise is coming from, after we spoke last week, clutch seems fine, not spongy or anything, gearbox feels pretty good drove it 30 odd mile yesterday, n it sounds sort of 'grating' lasts for a few seconds then disappears

Hmm. Perhaps we should have a listen at the weekend. But you may be right. Did you try the oil change? I'd do that first, and check the old oil for any little metal shards.

Haven't done that yet, haven't had a chance too. so have treated myself to a long weekend as i deserve it, with a list of 'to do's so that'll be next on the agenda

My old MG Midget had a noisy clutch release bearing for the whole of my 10 years of ownership, it was a little annoying, but I lived with it! I only did about 12000 miles in all that time, so I'd hope your F wont be in immediate trouble....
