What tyres are we all using?

K50 is in need of a set of tyres, I'll be replacing all four. It's currently on the OE Goodyears. Size 185/55/15 Front and 205/50/15 Rear.

GSD2's are like rocking horse poo, so what are the other options. A bit of reading online suggests that almost any tyre would be OK provided all four are the same and they have reinforced sidewalls.

The Avon ZZ5 I have on the ZT have been pretty good through the winter and I've had good performance from Toyo T1S in the past, but this has been on bigger, heavier cars than the F.

What is everyone using and how are they performing?

I have been looking at tyre options here in NZ. The choice is limited here.

I am on my third set of Avons and they have been superb. As yet I am unable to source them
in NZ but am told there may be a supply in Hamilton. A company does import Avon motor cycle and
racing Avons so we shall investigate further.

I read online of many alternatives to the original Goodyear NCT-3's that were the only recommended tyre
from the MG factory but as you will know, no longer available.

So, Bridgestone S-03 (hard to get) Bridgestone S-O2 Toyo T-1R Proxes Goodyear F1 GS-D2
Toyo T-1S Proxes Goodyear F1 GS-D3 Yokohama A539 Fulda Y3000 and Bridgestone RE720
Pirelli P7000 Continental Premium contact and Goodyear NCT-3

The Avon mentioned is Avon ZV3 I have Avon ZV5 with a similar tread pattern.

All these are reviewed online and stated as an alternative. Sadly I cannot remember where I read this .Oh dear me. I have 185 fr and 205 rear on my 1997 'F'

If I cannot source them here I will sling an ex UK set in an MG importers container so am pretty keen to stick with them.

No one seems able to say 'Buy so and so tyres' so the informed choice will always be difficult.

I tried GSD 2s and Toyo on the first TF and much preferred the Toyo's and I have them on the current TF. I heard Proxes were in danger of being discontinued but don't know if there is any substance to that.

Well after running around a bit this morning, most places where only interested in selling me a set of Falkens. On a long shot I called in at Halford's Autocentre who gave me a good price on Toyos. I've had them on the ZS years ago and was very happy with them so have ordered a set for fitting next weekend.
