Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
Crap photos , good to see the clutch thing done, ask if its a sheddist one, if so you are laughing there.
Who is the guy, does he own that dealership or what.
I would imagine, it will go for between 600-800 pounds, at a guess.

I've done a little research on the web and the lad selling it is the son of the guy that owns the company.
He races in the MGOC comp and one would assume that Daddy wouldn't want them to get a bad name by selling a pup.
We shall see though.

The sheddist clutch cylinder conversion is undoubtably a fine peice of home engineering, but doesn't resolve the root problem that causes the slave bracket to bend and the cylinders to fail.
The shaft that goes into the gearbox to operate the clutch can seize as it goes through the casing, increasing the load required to operate the clutch. If this is regularly greased (make it an extra job on a service) you shouldn't have a problem.

Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
Have to admit it's not my cup of tea, mainly because I don't like saloons so much! Looks great from the front but the back, IMO, looks butt ugly mainly because it's a facelift so a huge expanse of nothing! A reg plate breaking it up makes a small improvement on the mk1s.
But it's your choice and all that matters is if you like it.
Re the spoiler, IIRC the 120s has options but I always thought 180s had one as standard but the original buyer could request it's ommission on ordering. I'm sure someone else will be along shortly to confirm or deny this...

I to like the look of the hatchbacks more ( I know they are not as stiff!!!!)
It just looked like a nice car, but it does need something on the back.

Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
Nope, hardly any Mk2 had spoilers, I guess it was an optional, you find most just have a boot lip spoiler.
No reserve as well, brave man , could be bargain there Colin. Ps, for reference its a known fact that the saloons are better looking.

Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
Nice looking car.
The later models did indeed have a lip spoiler as standard with the big wing as an option. I think most 180 buyers went for the wing.
And saloons are MUCH better looking than the hatchbacks.

But seriously, looks nice - but if I was getting a saloon, I would have a ZT saloon not a ZS saloon.

The spoilers are pretty cheap on ebay, and the bolt holes (templates) are already on the bottom of the boot lid so straight forward fit.
If you get a saloon you have to have the extreme spoiler to balance the huge boot area out.

Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
But more aerodynamic and a little more sporty looking! And if you can get one out of shape on the public highway because of the difference in torsional ridgidity, you're driving like an idiot!cejsmith wrote:I to like the look of the hatchbacks more ( I know they are not as stiff!!!!)
Same here... A much better, refined shape...StevePem wrote:But seriously, looks nice - but if I was getting a saloon, I would have a ZT saloon not a ZS saloon.
Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
Im with stupid, sorry and mean Rich
I always loved the saloon due to the fact of the look of the ZS with the big spoiler and was going to have one when I got my 400 bubble back in 2004ish but it turned out to be a hatch, car was free well payment as I took the engine out of it to go in a metro but as it was free I made do with it and over time from using it(very practicle with 5 doors, not 4 and a letter box boot) and playing with it the hatch grew more and more with me and the saloon look faded out. This is why I have a ZS hatch rather than the saloon, plus facelift ZS saloon back end just looks ugly even with the large spoiler fitted as its too plain (sorry to those who have and like it but each to their own)
Also the size of the ZS saloon is basically the same as a ZT and I would have a ZT(ZT-T infact) if I had the choice

Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
We have a left field choice , I may be going to see a 75 Connoisseur SE estate 1.8T.
My old man used to be a Rover guy and perhaps I have reached that age as well, all that leather and comfort is good for a man

Nice!!! I like the sound of that (the car, not the Old Man Colin )

Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
75 Connoisseur is nice, I considered one when I when I bought the ZS but really needed the practicality of the hatch.
If I could justify (and afford) three cars, I would "hot" up the ZS as Rich did with Smudge so I had a winter "fun" car and summer "fun" car and get a 75 Connoisseur as a motorway cruiser and proper 4/5 seater.
The only criticism I have of the ZS is it is a bit tight in the back for adults - not sure if it is the same with the ZS saloon or if that has more rear leg room.
Not too much of a problem as I very rarely have 4 in the car but have to carry stuff in the back from time to time.

Is this one of the ones you already considered?
Of course, I realise Lincoln is well outside your catchment area
And it needs 4 tyres which would cost nearly as much as the car (unless Matt has a set stashed away)

That looks like a lot of car for the money. Wonder what may be causing the 'clicking'. They don't mention the non standard exhaust and filter clearly visible in the pics either.

Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
I know,
I am almost tempted given it has red monaco interior. Could just swap the wheels over from mine!
Could be due a belt change though, even at Martin's price quoted to Colin that is another £450!
