zs 180 or maybe ZT
As some of you know I'm looking for a zs180( hatchback) or maybe a ZT ( or nice 75)
As people know I am a cheap skate so I really don't want to go more than a grand.
If any one hears of one locally , please give me a shout. I already am searching on ebay, pistonsheads, gumtree and autotrader.

Nope not of me, I want a standard(ish) car to keep the insurance costs down.

Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
Fair play, but it was "slightly" cheaper to insure smudge for me than the ZS 180, the ZT's even 190 was about 30 pounds cheaper than the ZS 180. Well with multi-car discount the ZS only costs 250 to insure.

Ooh a ZT-T CDTi, that'd replace the Ovlov perfectly and still get 40+ mpg, I was thinking about getting one as Karen wants a dog, but the financials of selling the 5 series dont work yet.

So are you saying the ZT-T CDTI is a bit of a dog then?

Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
Hi Nick
I've spoken to the guy and I'm not sure about him. Also he has only had it a little while and he wants rid.
The big problem is he doesn't know when the belts where done.

Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
A few people that I spoken to today have indicated that their engines have a bit of a rattle at the top of the engine.
Now is it a problem or not, I assume it the inlet manifold and some sort plastic bits inside, does the car need it working or not??????

Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
That will be the vis motors or somthing in the inlet manifold that's broken.
Vis motors not that expensive but a new manifold is big bucks.
I would look for one without rattle or tapping.
If it is ratling it will still be ok to drive but be down on power, look on, themgzs forum there's a sticly all about it

Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
As Lee said, the ViS motors on the end of the inlet manifold fail which then holds the internal throttle(butterfly) valves in a set possition or does not operate them fully so its like having a half throttle. Also with the same internal butterfly linkages the ball joints wear out for excessive oil build up and these will end up being like a broom handle in the channel tunnel, if this happens then there is a chance of the linkage failing and breaking off which wouldn't be very pleasant as it would means a new engine or at least new valves/heads Thing is some engines can rattle for thousands of miles and never give a problem other than the noise and then other will just pack up all of a sudden
Both parts can be replaced/repaired with modifications to the motors and also a new custom butterfly linkage setup which have been made by a member off .org and xpower forums (sheddist) I have a spare inlet which has good ViS motors but a worn butterfly linkage spare in the garage and a new butterfly linkage setup to be fitted to test but as I don't have my engine in a car to test I haven't seen the point in playing with it yet but if you are interested in seeing what they are etc then I can show you if you wanted.

If you search you tube for kv6 you can find a video by rover explaining and showing how they work. It's a bit geeky, but it shows just what is happening

Nothing wrong with buying a green car, especially if its a mk1 F VVC
Now owning and keeping a green car is a different matter

Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
Morning Colin... Here's another interesting car for you...

Shouldn't take too much to sort and could be fun if you follow Matt's advice on sorting turbos!

Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
Not too bad to sort, as long as it is just the head gasket as from how he has described it(and the look of the car) I would say that he has not bothered with it and just drove it all the time even with the temp problem, and now its got worse so he though time to sell, so just incase you want to budget abit more just in case it needs a head or worse a block.

Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
I understand that a complete HGF on the turbo engines can often be followed by turbo failure as the bearings aren't lubricated properly when the mayo forms. I guess it depends on how far gone it is and how long it's been used.

Re: zs 180 or maybe ZT
cheap car are the worst things to buy in my view, I'm looking for a bargin but it's difficult not to buy a money pit.
Which are easier to work on ZT turbos or Zt/ZS KV6's and which is easier for parts etc????

Not worked on a turbo but I would say being a K-Series it'd be easier than a KV6...!
