and before you all say it I mean in the car not fuel Rich Smile

Righto question time.

I have noticed recently that my fuel guage seems to go down much quicker than it used to. I fill up at the same place and generaly the same amount in cost.

So the question is, can something go wrong on the MGTF, some setting or piece of equipment, that may then cause more fuel to be used during normal consumption runs and is there a way of testing it?

Or am I just being tight and watching that little needle a little more closely Smile

If the coolant sensor for the ECU is malfunctioning it could overfuel your car (like having the choke stuck on in the olden days).
Have you any other symptoms? excessive smell of fuel from the exhaust, running unevenly when warm? etc.
Another possibility it the fuel line connector to the fuel filter, this has been known to leak (not a good thing) in fact I think someone on here was suffering with that , Colin maybe?

If its running fine otherwise and no strange smells / behaviour then it's probably down to your right foot;)

I did do a double take, I have to admit! Cool

Anyway, what Nick said... Coffee

The speed of the right foot going down is equally proportionate to the speed of the go-go juice going down!
Laugh my a**e off!

Did you fill up at the same garage?

Although people claim Shell to be the benchmark, I find I get less miles out of a tank of Shell versus say BP.

Conversely a lot of people say supermarket petrol is "watered down" but I fill up at ASDA quite often and get good mileage out of their petrol.

As mentioned already, the most likely cause to over fueling is a coolant temp sensor failure which will make the ecu think it needs more fuel at times whenit does not. Another common issue is a faulty lambda sensor but this would 90% of the time bring up the MIL(malfunction indicator lamp) on ther dash. If you have someone local you can rely on to carry out a simple fault code scan it may show something up for you, if they have a more in depth diagnostic which will give you the actual readouts of the sensors then even better.

Carrying on with the petrol stations, I always use Morrisons fuel and never have a problem with it, and I get my points to get money off shopping Wink
