Hi !

Just got both the MGF's rear hydragas sphere's replaced, along with the rear shocks ( gaz ones now ) , lowered , new rear tie bar (whatever that may be ) and re-aligned.

Must say it doesn't jolt the spine now, absorbs the bumps better and goes round corners better. Feels like a new car, which with half the suspension changed it pretty much is.

What with the K&N, new seats etc I think that should be it for this year. Would others have changed the car rather than trying to get it up to scratch , considering how little they seem to be these days ?

No Kevin I wouldn't change the car. It's better the devil you know. God knows what rubbish you might buy Laughing .

How much if I may ask? You can PM me if you prefer. I am thinking my spheres may need replacing too.

Cheers

Dave

PM sent hopefully.

One day I hope someone comes up with a cost effective way of replacing the spheres with a traditional setup or if they go again the spheres will be as difficult to find as hen's teeth. Rolling Eyes

Shocked I hope you were joking there...

That's exactly what they did when they redesigned the car and made the TF. Ask any devoted 'F owner what they think of the suspension set-up of a TF, whether standard or with the confort kit, and they'll always tell you the hydragas system wins every time. MG Rover would have kept it if it wasn't for the cost... Going to the standard spring and damper set-up was actually a cost cutting move and NOT an upgrade (as many TF owners may have you believe).

Although there can be problems with the spheres, they are generally reliable. The biggest problem with the system is leaks in the system. When I got my 'F back in 2003, it was leaning towards the driver's side, all down to the small valve under the bonnet leaking. A quick inexpensive fix an all was well!

Anyhow, I hope the work you've had done works well for you. If you want it any stiffer, have a look at some tie-bar polybushes. Don't go mad and use polybushes everywhere as the ride will become very harsh...

Oh and rest assured, there will be plenty of spares in breakers yards around the country. Just think of the other cars that use the same system... Metro, Allegro, Maxi...

Hi !

[Rich] I wasn't joking Embarassed

Thanks for that though : makes the expense seem more worthwhile.

Ride seems better than when I hired a MGF back in 1995 ( and always wanted one since ! ).

And a photo showing the end of this years interior mods and post lowering. Mark 2 doorcards now and red and black leather seats

ok, ok I know red and black is a little cliche, but I think it looks good! Magnifying the shot probably shows it a bit better.

Looking very smart... I'm looking forward to seeing it properly. Red and Black is a great choice and from what I can see from the pic, it's not cliche at all. Very sporting and perfect for the car colour.
Thumbs up

Just need a splitter and spoiler now... Laughing

Painted calipers ? Funnily enough my other halves 19 year old suggested that Smile

along with a little more chrome. Hopefully I'll make it to Linslade on the 11th and we can discuss what I should do next.....
