Insurance Woes

Any of you guys who got your insurance through Adrian Flux covered by Trinity Lane? If so think carefully about what you give them as a job title!

I am covering for a colleague on maternity leave so my job title officially changed this Monday so when I submitted the claim for my prang I gave them my new job title which of course is different to when I took out the insurance.

As of this week I will be 95% working from home, virtually zero business travel by car and all in all will probably not do more than 4k miles driving this year all in, but Trinity Lane have decided I am now in a higher risk occupation and have charged me an extra £107 over the c£250 premium.

Now waiting to see what pittance they offer me as a settlement as I expect they will write off the car based on repair cost I have been given.

The replacement panel is a pretty substantial lump and estimate for fitting/spraying etc is c£1800. I would guess they will write off so then depends how much they give me and how much I have to pay to buy it back. May not make sense to repair it, the body shop said they would try to pull out the panel but can't guarantee it will be satisfactory so may just have to take off the bits I want and go TF shopping.

They will write it off, car is worth say 1500, if the repair is 700 or more, its a write off ,just buy it back from them, do NOT accept their first offer its always low.

Are you sure it even needs a new panel, could not the original one just be pulled out, and then repainted?

The body shop guy was not sure if it could be pulled out but said he would try that first but could not guarantee it would be a satisfactory result. He is a perfectionist (does a lot of Rolls Royce and other prestige repairs) so he is going to be cautious but does excellent work.

If I could be certain it could be pulled out and be right I would definitely go ahead.

Insurance are sending an engineer to inspect so I suppose there is still an outside chance they may authorise the repair instead of write off.

Once I know where I stand with the insurance I will think about what to do.

The MoT is due first week of August - I know it definitely needs a new set of disks and pads on the front and if it turns out there is more, who knows? I will do the sums and see if it makes more sense to repair or strip and sell bits and buy another.

If anybody knows of a good condition red TF on the market, let me know just in case
