Intermittent overheating
As some of you will know I have had an intermittent overheating problem. Well it got worse and I had mayo so I bit the bullet and went for a cure all.
- new head gasket
- skimmed head (wasn't done in Feb with last HGF)
- exhaust manifold gasket
- gasket to main head VVC
- gasket upper to lower in man VVC
- cam seals
- cam carrier sealant
- coolant outlet gasket
- cylinder head bolts
- oil filter
- sump bung washer
- alternator belt
- sealant for cylinder liners (which were loose)
If that lot doesn't cure it I will trade it in for a ZT and be done with the K series forever

Re: Intermittent overheating
Sorry to hear about this Dave, I had no idea it was playing up! That lot shpould sort it out for you (that and a new coolant cap I suppose). I'm amazed the liners were loose, has it had a gasket before, sounds like it may have been cranked without the liners clamped. Still at least it'll all be tip top for a rolling road shootout (see other thread).
Have you had it back yet?and who did you get to do it? I assume Cliffton Lane.

It had HGF failure back in February and I specifically bought one which had had the HG done We tried flushing, coolant cap and coolant temp sensor (which had been disconnected ) but to no avail hence the "rebuild".
Clifton Lane did it. I got it back this morning.

Re: Intermittent overheating
Sorry to hear the bad news dave i thought the overheating problem was cured?
Apart from the overheating, can you tell the difference in performance since having the rebuild?

Absolutely Seb. It feels much quicker than it was. I don't know if moving liners takes away from the performance but I guess because they weren't anchored at the bottom end some horses would have been slipping out the barn door

I wasn't contemplating diesel no
As I said in reply to Seb, it is driving moving really well.

Re: Intermittent overheating
I was just basing that on the fact that you mentioned being 'done with the K series' and that only leaves the diesels... Glad to hear the Trophy is running well and restored your faith in the the K!daved wrote:I wasn't contemplating diesel no

Thats excellent news Dave, I love that feeling when the car seems to perform much better than it used to after work has been carried out! ... sounds like the boys at Clifton Lane have done another sterling job! lets hope it cures the overheating problem once and for all!
