Re: Lincoln Christmas Market - 5th December 2008
Part of the atmosphere are the Christmas lights, so we really are better going later rather than earlier. Could we have some feedback on when would be best for everyone to travel? Although I've already said Saturday afternoon is going to be busy, it may still be the best time as I doubt we'll have a massive convoy... But please let me know if you want to go!

Re: Lincoln Christmas Market - 5th December 2008
OK, so just to get everyone else up to date, the decision was made at the pub meeting today to revert to the original plan of going up on Friday 5th December. As we really want the Christmas atmosphere and to see the lights in all their glory, we'll leave at 2pm and come back later in the evening, before we've consumed too much mulled wine to be over the limit!. A meeting place will be set nearer the time.
Apologies to those who would have preferred the Saturday, but it would really be far too busy and not practical for a group trip.

Re: Lincoln Christmas Market - 5th December 2008
We need to arrange somewhere that's convenient for us all to meet up. I'll have a look at the map and see where's best. I'll have a look for a decent route and starting place and post it here in a while.

Re: Lincoln Christmas Market - 5th December 2008
Quick update:
I'm just planning a route starting at Northampton. It's about 86 miles and I've adjusted the roads so we shouldn't have too much Friday traffic. Unfortunately, the park and ride is on the north side of Lincoln so we'll have to bypass the centre of the city. There is no parking close to the market. The fee for the park and ride is £10 per car.
The Northampton meeting place will be Park View (Moulton, NN3 7UZ), which is a small road just off the roundabout where Overstone Road (Moulton) and Overstone Lane (Sywell) meet the Kettering Road. There is a Filling Station at the start of it.
Dave & Moira... As we're going to be virtually passing your doorstep, we'll pick you up on the way through, but I'm not sure where. I did think of Telford Lodge, Kettering. Any other suggestions?
Da!sh!... James, are you and the OH able to come?

Moira is working until 1 so we won't be ready until 2 is that OK?
Which way are you going to Lincoln from the A14?

Re: Lincoln Christmas Market - 5th December 2008
Well I was thinking of leaving the Northampton meeting point at 2pm, so that would give you time, especially if we pick you up on the way.daved wrote:Which way are you going to Lincoln from the A14?
The route I'm looking at is join the A14 from A43 Northampton, up one junction and off towards Corby on A43, pick up the A6003 up past Oakham, across through Cottesmore, join the A1, come off onto the A64 round the outside of Lincoln and up to the Park'n'Ride. Got it all planned on AutoRoute and transferred to TomTom.
Would Telford Lodge be a good pick-up point or can you think of somewhere better?

Re: Lincoln Christmas Market - 5th December 2008
The weather is looking fine for today and it may well be we drive up in sunshine! If there's any change, I wouldn't mind a light dash of snow to add to the festive atmosphere. I'm really looking forward to this as it's going to kick off the true Christmas spirit for me. And I love three day weekends!
Still no word from Cheryl & Ron...
