Spitfires, Merlins & Motors - 28th July 2013

A nostalgic celebration of the legendary Supermarine Spitfire and the unmistakable Merlin engine.

There will be a number of Spitfires on static display so that you can have a closer look at this iconic aircraft before seeing them take to the skies to perform short displays. Adding to the vintage feel will be living history groups bringing the 1940s to life.

Hear the instantly-recognisable Merlin engine roar into life and see a number of classic and contemporary cars on display.

Enjoy a fun and nostalgic day at IWM Duxford, the spiritual home of the Spitfire. Even better, as the whole of the museum will be open too.

Should be up for this. Was a good day out last year even if the weather was a little changeable.

Last year we camped nearby the night before and I think we'll try to do that same again if anyone wanted to join us.

Thats very nice of you BM, how big is your tent and do we have to bring our own air beds ?
Also the missus snores a bit but you wont hear it once your asleep and she looks quite cute so that compensates a bit.....

We won't be camping at this one, so a nice early morning drive for us. Anyone want to join us? We can have a small convoy again... As we do!

We very much enjoyed this event and especially the short convoy up to Duxford.....why aren't there more 'runs' out ? ......it was great fun

There are loads of events in the Summer and usually organised by others, mainly on MG-Rover.org. They often have runs and we just hitch on the back. If there's enough interest with SmS members, we more often than not have a convoy in. We've done several in the last couple of months, all detailed on here.

As we get to the end of the season, we'll start looking into Sunday pub runs which are always popular. Just keep an eye out here on the forum for details and add your name to the list!

Oh, and feel free to post if you hear of an event you think other members may be interested in. You'll always get a response...
