turbos with problems
In the search of the perfect car ( for under a fiver ) , i've come across a few 1.8T's with turbo problems. Is it a big job replacing them ????

Re: turbos with problems
The turbo... no. Bolt off, bolt on job done.
Only problems your get if is a turbo has disintagrated allowing parts to go trough into the intake pipes, intercooler and possible the engine, but this should not of happend to any as most people will realise the turbo is faulty or they have a probelm with either the noise of the bearings failing in the turbo or lack of power.
For a replacement turbo you have several options, there is a company importing the K series reproduction turbo from China, nice and cheap but reliability will be unknown and the same for the warrentee. Brand new OEM from Xpart, not that cheap but you will have peace of mind with it, same for if you ordered a new one from garrett direct or from the likes of Euro Car Parts where you can get either brand new or remanufactured.

Chinese ones were about £195, Euro was £475 for reman, cost of new ones I'll have to get back to you as Im on my netbook atm so no access to parts.
