Striping / Decals
Ok, after sunday the TF should be ready, but I would like opinions on decals. I don't really want the standard stripes and since I don't use the car as a daily driver, I thinking of going for the complete X-Power Look. (I never seen these decals on a TF in the flesh (a few ZR's))
The car is the right colour to start with and I have the right wheels, and I won't be bothering with the body kit (not that you can get it). The picture is missing the green on the bumper and splitter, but you get the idea.
The only thing that has me thinking is the spoiler (I know Colin) had it it on the NOS. I think I like them, but it could go horrible wrong and look chavtastic if you get the wrong one.
So whats peoples opinions, I think that colour scheme goes well and the car is just a toy so will be good for a "show off".

Hi Lee
I never had a spoiler on the NOS monster, but I am thinking of one on the TF. Did you get the cooling system sorted???

Re: Striping / Decals
I reckon a slight variation on the theme would look excellent. When I say variation, I just mean minor tweaks to the design such as the width of the centre stripe needing to be thinner and you could possibly have a slightly smaller MG logo on the bonnet if you're not doing a matching hardtop. Between designer me, vinyl supplier/cutter Tony and applicator Lee P we could get it looking the dog's danglies!
With regards rear spoiler, I reckon it would be good with one but not the chavvy mechano style one that was on the nos monster in its hot wheels days. I knew the car then and it was one of the biggest mistakes on it. Something more along the lines of what Colin is looking for would be far better and still carry off a sportier profile...

What is Colin after ? any images?
Right, I will upload pictures tonight so that you can design what it might look like then, we can use my car as SMS decal project

Re: Striping / Decals
Actually, here's a slight change of perspective. Just been looking on the org and found THIS THREAD. Now if someone had just told me they were doing this, I would have said they had a screw loose but looking at the pics I think it's flippin' awesome... If you did this and it was colour matched at xpower decals applied, I reckon you'd be onto a real winner!
And no probs with the pics. I'll give anything a go. The best pics would be front and back straight on but slightly elevated and side profile level with the door handle... if you can!

Re: Striping / Decals
That is the very one and the very colour... What a bonus! So are you tempted then?
Re: Striping / Decals
Just read this
Why thank you kind sir. Looks good with the top down .
Yes it was a cut and shut job. 94mm taken out of the middle. The 2 halfs then fixed top and bottom with sheet metal plates ,secured with long reach pop rivets and fibre glass filler.
The feet have extended back studs to raise the rear up to keep the blade level. The resulting gap filled with fibre glass filler then bolted to the boot lid while the filler was still soft. This then hardens to take the form and curve of the boot lid surface.
Fill ,rub down ,paint and fit .....simples.
So may not be interested after all, a bit beyond my skill , back to the drawing board on the spolier.

Re: Striping / Decals
It would be worth it if you could get a cheap slightly damaged one and experiment with it, but the one you're watching is a tad expensive to be doing that with...
Still worth thinking about though... Matt's good with modding body panels and bits!

Re: Striping / Decals
Whilst I wait for Rich to wave his magic design skills, I thought about buying the actual X-Power Car.

Maybe we could have a whip round for it

Re: Striping / Decals
Lee, are you going to cut out the centre pieces of the top grille in your front bumper? Think you should...
I'll include that on the PhotoShopped pics!

Re: Striping / Decals
I have toyed with the idea of cutting the slats out of the top grille on mine so will be interested to see your photo shop.
Or suppose I could just get an LE bumper instead

Re: Striping / Decals
The LE bumper would be much better. It brings back a little of the classic MG shape that was evident in the MGF bumper...
But for the XPower project it wouldn't matter as cutting the original TF bumper is exactly what they did. The sides would need building up where the centre pieces join but I would imagine that's not too hard a job to do with some fibreglass and a couple of bits of cardboard to hold in in place whilst it hardens. Then a bit of a brush in and Robert's your dad's brother...

Do two, one with one without, so I can see the difference
Thanks

Re: Striping / Decals
Well here's a rough idea... A bit difficult with the angles the photos were taken but you'll get the idea!
First pic is the front with the grille left as standard:
Next one is the front with the centre cross parts of the grille taken out like the TF500:
Here's a back view. Definitely would be better with some kind of spoiler but couldn't find one from the right angle to stick on...
And one of the side which was the hardest to do. The car was quite dark and the angle awful. That's my excuse anyway!

Re: Striping / Decals
Back and front are spot bloody well on, one thing you missed off the front, is just above the grill, I want the SMS logo, in grey.
Also, the MG logo on the side, can you make it a little bigger, ie to fill the door, I would like to see what that looked like.
I still like the wing type of spoiler, but its a bugger finding any that would look good on the back.
But I have to say seeing that is defo a go, well done Rich .
First initial quote from my local graphics guy is between 250 and 350, does that sound about right.

Re: Striping / Decals
I can give the side another go but it's very difficult at the angle you took the pic. I know it's because you shoved the car down between your caravan and house but is there any possibility you retake it? Best to have a full side profile. And I'll add the SmS stickers too.
You need to speak to Tony about the graphics. It's not the usual easy jobs we give him to cut because of the silver outlines but I'm pretty sure he could do it alot cheaper than that!

Re: Striping / Decals
I'll take a look at doing something when I get home...
Do you want the graphics blurry too?
