High Mileage
I was just wondering what peoples thoughts where on higher milage cars. I personally would rather had a car that had been driven rather than a garage queen.
I was just wondering what sort of mileage people think the k series are good for???

Re: High Mileage
Up to 140k here. If it's serviced on time and looked after then no reason why it won't just keep on going and going and going and going and going and....you get the point

Re: High Mileage
I have to admit to always looking for low/lower mileage cars.
High milers should in theory be ok if serviced on time, but a high mileage car will have other potential issues apart from the Engine, the whole drive train will have been subject to the same amount of wear and tear, also not forgetting the interior?
If you are planning to drive a low mileage in the car, then the average will fall on a high miler, but if you are planning to drive average/high miles yourself then a lower mileage example would be a better buy.

Cared for 200k+. Thrashed & abused less than 50k. As others have said depends what you want it for & also how handy @ DIY. Having known a 5 series throw an engine @ 8k really can be down to luck as well

Re: High Mileage
It was really f and TF I was talking about , I know alot of cars 100k is nothing as long as it's had its oil changed.
I'm going to see 100k TF 160 today

Re: High Mileage
Ollie had 104K on when he came off the road... due to bodywork, not the engine!
I reckon you'll regret having a TF after being spoilt with decent handling and performing Fs. That's not a derogatory comment to TF owners, just that the difference between them is a personal thing and something you really need to think about.
So what happened with the anthracite Trophy? Sounded like the perfect platform for you...

Re: High Mileage
The trophy might still be a goer, but it has down sides
1. Needs paint on the mirrors and it has stone chips and some rust around the air scoops
2. Needs a set of tyres
3. Needs a services
4 Slight VVC clack ( nothing like the diesel though)
5. Clutch seems to be a bit high
6. No current MOT!!!!
7. Has a crappy broken wind stop

Re: High Mileage
I always think about the mileage I'm going to do, if I was going to put 20K a year on one then I'd want one with 30-40 K on it as I'd have killed it in 7 years. As it happened I got my F 4 years ago and have done around 10K miles in it so it'll be 6 years at that rate before I hit 100k Miles.
Colin as you change your F/TFs on an annual basis I reckon a high miler with good history will do you nicely

Re: High Mileage
Hmmm, now let me think... Nope! But you should get a bargain I would have thought, as it's not actually road legal at the moment.cejsmith wrote:... do you think he will take £500 to get it of his hands
Trophys are starting to gain value as I've said before, basically because they are the best MGF to own and being limited editions they are finding their way into enthusiasts' hands where they more commonly stay now. Also, given the age of them, one that was totally immaculate with no blemishes on the paintwork, fuul service history, etc. would be hard to find. When I was looking, a couple I was keeping a close eye on went for £3,500 and they were both yellow! One was a private car and one was a trade-in at a BMW garage...

Re: High Mileage
Well the best price on the trophy is £1200 what do people think???

Re: High Mileage
I like trophys 1200 is the cheapest I've heard of one going for so it aint bad, even with possibly £500 to MOT and £300 for paint / tarting it up its a good deal... what tyres has it got and what other potential pit falls are there?
At the end of the day you should still have a few quid spare from the NOS monster and a fully functioning Trophy

Re: High Mileage
Both nice cars
The TF would be about £1400 ready to go but needs bumper repainting and possible head gasket.
Or the trophy
Or you never know a red trophy with ABS may turn up in MK 2moro!!!!

Re: High Mileage
Lovely looking cars.
You know which I would buy, yes the 160.
Not the yellow one.
