New MGF and things to do!!!
I picked up my new MGF yesterday, it's got a few jobs that need doing ( that was before I split the rear window this morning ). Most of the job I think I can do myself but I was wondering if I have problems, are their any good garages in or around the milton keynes area that can do the work???
I know about Souls, but they do charge high main dealer prices, I did ask them about a service and they wanted £500plus.
Also anybody around here do rear window repairs!!!!!!!

Re: New MGF and things to do!!!
Hi and welcome!
I've given you a proper welcome in the 'Welcome' section... surprisingly!
Back to your question... As far as work on your car is concerned, there are a few on here who would be more than happy to help you out with the majority of problems, although head gasket failures and the like may be best handled by competent and experienced mechanics. We recommend a guy called Russell who trades as MG Rover Solutions and actually comes to your house or place of work. Not only does he have the support of SmS but other forums are always giving their thumbs up too. He's reliable, very competitive and guarantees his work. Have a look here for one of our other member's testimonials!
As for your hood window, I've got my old hood in my back garden (no space left in the shed!) with a perfect window. Open to offers...
By the way, what age/colour/spec is your 'F?

Re: New MGF and things to do!!!
Hi and welcome to the SMS I hope you and your new F are getting along well, they're a great fun car.
Sorry to hear you've cracked your rear window, in my experience it's easier to swap out your whole hood (4 bolts is all) than rivet in a new screen(I'm on my 4th hood...due to colour changes etc!).
f you manage to get a bargain one then I'll happily help you swap it over or provide a how to for you.
Wierdly I have a spare hood in my back garden as well (but it's grey) -something about us lot (or is it the cars) but there's always some spares kicking around amongst our members.
Be good to see you and your F at a meet some time soon

Thanks for the welcome.
My car is a 1996 Nreg vvc in BRG ( assume thats the colour!!!), I think it's standard but as I'm new to the world of MGF's I can't be certain.
Im not having a good day first the roof, now I have a parking ticket on it!!!!
Here is a question for you good chaps and Chapeess, what tyres should I put on it ?

Re: New MGF and things to do!!!
Tyres wise my preference is for the TOYO Proxes T1-R, others use and are happy with Continentals (not sure exactly which Continentals Rich uses) and Goodyear Eagle F1s.
If you still have the standard 15 inch wheels then they should all be pretty reasonably priced, IMHO the Toyos are the best balance between price and performance.
a 96 it must be one of the early ones, I know Marcus on here has a red N reg that was about 30th off the line or so,Mines a 97 P reg VVC so not a million miles away from yours either. Gotta love that VVC

Re: New MGF and things to do!!!
Anybody know who does the best deals on tyres then for MGF in MIlton Keynes or the surrounding area?

Re: New MGF and things to do!!!
try www.blackcircles.com, or www.mytyres.co.uk they're usually very good pricewise and you can choose from a list of local fitting centres.
The F is a fussy beast when it comes to tyres, I'd go for the best you can get pricewise.

Re: New MGF and things to do!!!
Welcome to SMS, glad you came across from .org on my recommendation .....I recently got Toyo's for my Tomcat, I used Tyre traders (http://www.tyretraders.com/), they supplied the tyres to the fitting centre direct (I opted for T&H in Bletchley), they were the cheapest around and i'd recommend them....along with Russell for anything mechanical as previously mentioned above.
Will be good to see you at a meet ....ps what's your name!!??

I work at the Merc dealer in MK, give me a shout with your size and we'll see what we can do...
With regards to recommended garages, I wouldn't touch Souls given my experience with their parts department...if you're prepared to travel a little way, Brown & Gammons in Baldock come highly recommended and whenever I've popped in there they seem helpful, friendly and enthusiastic.

A good service nonetheless and quite a knowledgeable bunch. Been in the MG Rover scene for many years.

Re: New MGF and things to do!!!
The Mercedes main dealer in Kingston. We offer a service that may be of interest to your E-Class actually, a complementary healthcheck at your home or place of work (I'm the technician who does these).
I'll find out about your tyre prices and let you know. Any brand preference?

I'm still open on tyre choice.
As for the merc service, thanks I know you guys are very good, but I have been put off by the prices your guys on the front desk want for jobs!!!!

Re: New MGF and things to do!!!
What year is the E-Class out of interest?
I will get a premium, mid-range & budget tyre price and get back to you.

It's a 99 e300 TD estate, i did use you once for some fault finding, which you where great at. But when it came to the repair you where about 4 times the cost of PCS.

We operated a new scheme (called Platinum) which gives owners of cars 7 years + a 40% labour discount & a FOC MOT when you have the car serviced with us. We'll also price match PCS/Autoclass (or any other garage for that matter!) on a like-for-like basis.
So you get main dealer service at independent prices-win/win

Re: New MGF and things to do!!!
I was in the Army I will have you know, we did not wear the Glen Gary hat but
lemon squeezers not unlike the Canadian Mounties. Spent hours making sure they were
oh so straight and flat........NZ Army that is......
They tell me that Clive Dunn who played Corporal Jones was in fact quite a bit younger
than the rest of the platoon but made to look older.......
Not many people know that!
