Breakdown and now in the garage
Going to work today at 7.15pm, top down, Chris Rea playing. I noticed the temperature gauge had climbed slightly and its normally static. Thought "keep an eye on that". 1 mile later its on 3/4 of max temp and never ever been there before. So I idled the engine and cruised into a farmers driveway. Sweet smell envelopes the car and then Hiss hiss the sound of coolant on a hot engine. Oh! no! it must be the Head gasket I think but dissapointed as I only have 35k on the clock and expected that at 60kish. Breakdown truck arrives and as the engine was now cool we refilled the header tank and started the engine. Normal working temp and the heater works in the car and the mechanic says he doesnt thik its the HG but the T piece which the flow and return pipes attach to on the block. He says its plastic and prone to fracture. Car now sitting outside my MG garage and awaiting monday for a conformation of the fault. Fingers crossed its not the HG yet.
Sunny days and no MG sob sob hope its fixed soon.

Re: Breakdown and now in the garage
I hate to say it but it's the classic symptoms... and unfortunately it's not a specific mileage range where they go. Clifton-Lane had a TF in for an HG with just 14K on the clock!
Once it's done though with the upgraded components, you shouldn't have another one and you'll have a little more confidence than before. Hope it's all sorted asap so you can continue enjoying this wonderful weather we're having!

What a bummer! I do hope it isn't HGF mate but as Rich says, fitting the new uprated bits should prevent any future occurrence.
Fingers crossed for you

Lucky Lucky Lucky
Wow! That was lucky it was only a coolant pipe failure so dont have a huge payout before my holidays at the weekend. Clifton Lane said you can never tell when the HG will go and they have cars which have NEVER gone to date.
Good old Clifton had it all fixed by 3.30 this afternoon so going to pick it up asap.
what a relief and if the HGF occurs on the way home I will weep hahaha.

Re: Breakdown and now in the garage
Excellent news! Glad you haven't had a huge bill. Hopefully you'll have plenty of worry-free miles ahead of you now. It was also nice to see you supporting our recommended garage, even though you are 30+ miles away!

So... coolant T piece, is that yet another part one should carry as a spare?
Two weeks time we are doing the Swedish rally.... ( 12 days ) maybe take a whole car as a spare? what do you think?
