DeadLocking Empty DeadLocking

Post  Seb 26/11/2008, 8:41 pm

Since the Pub meet on sunday, Nick and Stew have made me conscious of the whirring noise coming from the locking mechanism when deadlocking the Grape.

I know it used to make the noise on odd occasions but I have now realised it does it pretty much everytime I deadlock it!

I cant remember the technological name for it but according to the previous owner the parts which cause this were replaced shortly before I bought the car in 2001.

Does anyone how long these parts are supposed to last and also how much it costs to get these replaced again?

I am now getting into the habbit of just locking and not deadlocking just in case!

Hi Seb,

I think this is the part you need http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MG-MGF-Drivers-Off-Side-Door-Latch-Central-Locking_W0QQitemZ350098601390QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item350098601390&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1299%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

I believe it was the drivers side that's whirring?

I've been meaning to replace my passengers side mech (I have the part sat at home, just havent got round to doing it yet). If I get it done I'll do you a write up, although I think it's been covered on .org before.
Like you I just dont deadlock it at the moment.

Cheers Nick - You can pick up the part quite cheap then? I suppose it will be the labour which costs the money! i might see if i can order a brand new one from Clifton Lane, you never know how old the parts are from ebay!

Rob Bell did a fantastic write up in FasTForward magazine showing you how to do it. So, if you have some back issues then have a look through, or go to http://www.mgcars.org.uk/runnymede-mgoc/mgpitfiles/FasTForward/FasTForward.htm and subscribe! You can also order the available back issues!
