BANG! ....and the glass is gone!
oops. so I finally got round to stripping down the drivers door to fit my window stop as it had fallen out. It's the mike satur 'improved' one anyways I'm tightening it up and it's still a little loose * thinks dont want it to fall out again I'll just nip it up a little more** and.....
Yup I now have no drivers side glass , I'm covered in scratches (I look like I've been mugged by a gang of miniture cats) the garage was covered in 'diamonds' and so's the interior.
I was a little stunned, but not too anxious, I've got a replacement on order good old ebay! I bet it'll be a pig to fit as well.
Still at least I can admire my AP callipers I fitted successfully.
Why's it the 'easy 'jobs that never are
PS I hope you got my hommage to Barry Scott in the title

Nick, If it makes you feel any better, when i was down at the mgf centre in august a guy was having the exact same job done on his mgf and we were sitting chatting in the waiting area exchanging mgf stories when ............bang!! from the workshop.....you guessed it, window smashed so even the experts do it and this was 5pm and he was due to drive home in it.

Who said the windows are an easy job. I think anyone who has tried fiddling with them will disagree!Nick wrote:... Why's it the 'easy 'jobs that never are ...
A bit of bad luck there but at least you're on the case quickly and will be able to make it a distant memory...

Thanks for the commiserations!
I got the window delivered today and it's back in and working, I only have a few scratches on my arm and most of my fingers are bleeding as I had to get the shattered glass out from inside the door, the drain holes do a great job for that if you are ever in the same situation
I know I'll be finding glass everywhere for some time, but I feel really chuffed to have fitted it even though it still needs some adjustment to seal correctly.
Right I'm bleeding the brakes on Saturday so i should be up and running for the meet on Sunday, see you guys then....

You kno using a hoover would have been easier to get the glass out of the door
Glad its fixed though!

Yup I used a hoover, but there were bits in strange recesses and behind strenghtening bars and allsorts, also had to clear out the guide rail from the cheater with a screwdriver blumin stuff was everywhere... I was wearing gloves.

Re: BANG! ....and the glass is gone!
Even the professionals never get all the glass out. When I had my company van broken into via a smashed driver's window, they came out and replaced it for me. They even used an industrial strength vacuum cleaner to tidy up, but I was still finding glass over six months later. And the door had an annoying crunchy rattle right up to the day I gave the van up...

Keep the nippers out of the car! Even when you think you've got it all out - there's nothing as effective as small boys for finding it and damaging themselves!
