Plenty of people can take care of the HG at a reasonable cost if the car is cheap enough.

SOme Fs / TFs do survive without needing a head gasket for some time, I'm on 85k and I know ally went 150k on an original gasket. My advice is if it's a great car with good history , buy it and get the gasket done as and when necessary. After all Russell does it for the same as I paid for a replacement set of brake pads on my Old Audi A6!!!
Costs on these cars are high as a percentage of the purchase price, but naff all compared to modern motoring. Basic service ( oil change) on most dealer cars is around 200 quid, you could get a new gasket on a TF for a hundred quid more and that includes oil and coolant. Wink
