Which Airfilter
Right should I go for the complete induction kit or just stick to the performance panel filters.
IE
something like this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PIPERCROSS-VIPER-INDUCTION-KIT-MGF-MG-TF-VVC-TROPHY-/230658181182?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35b44c883e
the panel filters are cheaper at around 50 pounds, so is it worth going the full hog, or should i just stick with the TF airbox and an uprated filter?

Re: Which Airfilter
This ha been discussed on here at length before. The full system is not worth the money for the gains, if any, over a decent performance panel filter. Have a look HERE. The best price can be had from PTP as long as you don't have the hassle I had waiting for it...

There lotus specialist, just look at the price of the ITG panel filter, yes add on vat but is still cheap, and I can pop next door to pick it up

Excellent luck! Get yourself round there and don't be tempted by anything else. You could render yourself penniless very easily...

Re: Which Airfilter
Hmmm...Brooke Kensington. I can't speak of what their customer service is like when it comes to parts sales but when it comes to selling the car and the aftercare...they suck!
I bought my Elise from them 3 years ago-they weren't interested when the radiator burst two weeks after collecting it (eventually managed to get £100 "goodwill" out of them) and when they serviced it three months after collection, all manner of things were allegedly wrong.
They also misdiagnosed brake disc/pad rubbing noise (when the car is jacked up and the wheel was spun) as a noisy wheel bearing (ironic considering the car had received four new wheel bearings a matter of days prior).
Lets just say if I ever am fortunate enough to own another Elise, I won't be going anywhere near them...

Me, recently wrote:I can't speak of what their customer service is like when it comes to parts sales
Hence the above
You'd like to think there'd be little way someone could cock up a "over the counter" parts transaction.

Re: Which Airfilter
Anyone got experience of using the Pipercross foam panel filter? They seem to be readily available for just under £30 delivered.
I know Matt, for one, is an ITG fan but is there a significant performance margin of the ITG filter over Pipercross?

Re: Which Airfilter
If its just a replacement filter element then there isn't really much in the filters for performance, what your be looking at is life span(inc cleaning) and the cost, as any after market filter will give you an increase in performance over the factory filter, it may not be much but it will save you money in the long term as not having to change it every service

Re: Which Airfilter
I am looking for a pipercross or k&n panel filter (Trophy/TF size air box).
Where is the cheapest place (including delivery) ?
I checked today to find i have a dirty paper one and the FRONT hose was still in its original position, ie turned and inlet by the rear subframe. I have now fed to the side air intake, should cool the air and increase the bhp!

Re: Which Airfilter
Adrian, don't forget that there are two intake hoses... The important one to move is the one feeding the front of the box as its the most direct one. The one that goes to the rear won't have such an impact as its extended within the box itself. The ideal fix is to move both but it can be awkward as the rear one has to be extended to reach.adrianvvc wrote:... and the hose was still in its original position, ie turned and inlet by the rear subframe. I'm actually looking to modify the box slightly and do away with the rear feed and it's internal bit to give the box a less restricted airflow and great space for the cooler air. My ITG needs to breathe!
EDIT: Thanks for making it clear which one you did in your edit Ardrian. Are you doing anything with the rear one?

Re: Which Airfilter
Just for information, the reason the ITG filters are more expensive is that they are hand made and consequently a better quality of manufacture. That is why I favour them. In fact, I'm seriously considering replacing the K&N in Smudge with one. The K&N, although quite effective, does seem a little more restrictive but that may just be a misconception due to the material it's made of...

Same here, which you know I prefer an ITG over any other filter, how ever the ZS still has the KnN cone filter fitted that was only a 'temp' filter when I was building the engine up The filter is for a 220 Turbo and it's not causing any restrictions in the performance, even if it has only even been cleaned once earlier this year(pressure steamed it, hasn't even been oiled yet) with over 20k mile use I will eventually get round to sorting out an ITG maxogen setup on it

Re: Which Airfilter
Adrian, is that the correct link? It says that it's for MGF VVC from 1995!
It could be that it's just a generic description as i know you guys have looked into this for the correct part number but probably best to check to avoid disappointment...e-parts wrote:FITS VEHICLE MODEL : MG MGF 1.8 VVC

Re: Which Airfilter
PP1555 fits the Trophy box. It arrived today and fits very snuggly.
I have also removed most of the back pipe inside the box and secured the rear hose with a screw inside the box. The rear hose was drawing hot air from the rear of the engine compartment above the subframe. I have repostioned it to bend down 180 degrees towards the ns wheel and connected to underside of the top arm of the subframe near the engine mounting area, behind the soft flexible protecting panel thingy.
I expect an increase in performance for this hard work and expense.
