Repairable or not!!
ok well just come back from manchester and decided to take the islip route back to headington.... Anyway i'm driving along at 50, next thing out pops a hen just infront of me, so not time to avoid it not with traffic coming the other way so i hit it with passenger front corner and thought well there only soft so should be ok....
Just got home and i have a bleeding hole in the front bumper!!!! its beak has pierced one straight in (see below) so is it repairable or do i need a new front bumper?

New front bumper???? with damage like that -I'd say you needed a new car!PaulMGTF160 wrote:ok well just come back from manchester and decided to take the islip route back to headington.... Re: Repairable or not!!
Hope you don't mind but I thought it would be better to have the pic visible on the thread. I'll shrink it in a mo, as it's showing rather large!
No, I think you may get away with a repair if it's packed from behind with fibre-glass, then finished on the front and resprayed. Unlikely you'll get a perfect front bumper in your colour from a breakers so may be cheaper to take it to a reputable bodyshop. Sorry to see the damage, but at least you are ok... Cars repair alot easier than people and it could have thrown you off course...
If it's any consolation, we had a nice bit of chicken for tea... Filled a hole in my stomach!

Re: Repairable or not!!
Hi Paul, sorry to hear about you losing that game of chicken, as your car is immaculate.
My wife used chips away on a nasty scrape on her focus ( ST170 Magnum Grey metallic so not an easy colour match). The finish was great and it was loads cheaper than a body shop repair. I dont know if they fix holes though, I'd try giving your local franchise a bell and asking. Failing that the MGF centre have their own spray facilities and will supply and spray a 2nd hand bumper, I've not used 'em but I know lLe speaks highly of their leather work, might be worth giving Vicotria a bell for a quote.

thanks Nick! Will try Chips away now too. Just got a quote off a place this morning of 125+VAT similar kind of company to chips away and they said fixing the hole will be fine. as it is only 15mm *15mm. Just pretty gutted right now!!
actually think i won the game of chicken, as its lying at the side of the road!!

Re: Repairable or not!!
Hope it all goes well mate, it'd be good to get the car back to perfect.
I remember having a scratch on the wing of my old company car, my firm wouldnt get it fixed as it was 'cosmetic only', drove me mad so I fixed it myself.... sad arent I

Re: Repairable or not!!
I have a couple of folding bikes 'DI BLasi's, and last week the peddle of one of them put a dent in my rear panel. (forgot to check when I put them on)
So, a small chrome surround GB sticker has done the job of hiding the dent nicely. Looks quite the part too. I am pleased with the result.
Incidently, the bikes fit well on the 'F' but I do have to put them on up side down on the Halfords rack we have.
Not suggesting you use a GB sticker though, would look a bit odd on the front!
