Our adventure...
Great to have you back with us Rich............
Hey...we have had an adventure too, life never smooth all the time is it?
OUR HICKUP:
Big lorry, poor Carole squeezed out at a roundabout Sixfields way. Our dear little, oh so
useful DiHatsu Grand move very poorly with smashed passenger window, mirror gone, door panel damage, wing damage etc. Worst was the A pillar damage which is more difficult to repair. Consulted insurance but by the time an excess is paid, assessors involved, recovery, loss of no claims yardy yardy yardy blah.......Short story is the car written off(by me that is, just not worth repairing). At least £1,000 to fix it.
So, as luck would have it an identical car, same miliage, colour and so on was avaiable in Devon on Ebay. Rang the dealer up and he was willing to take our still drivable wreck. Today we got up REALLY early, drove down with a makeshift plastic sheet window and made the swap for quite small money. (Eleven hours door to door) Not a huge value in these cars but they are oh so useful as a hack. Very odd driving back as the car felt just like our old one, no difference!
Whilst in Paignton we spied a gorgeous Austin Healey 3000 outside a showroom, we walked over to find a virtual Aladdins cave of desireable MG's for sale. MGA MK1. 1947 TC
several restored MGB's a TR 6 and another Austin Healey 3000. All in restored condition
and more in the adjacent workshop. Couple of Healey engines on stands too. Bods, parts and cars everywhere. Magic.
As I said to Carole ' I can soon buy another car replacing you, not so easy....Ha

'Modern Motoring' Paignton Devon.
Odd name for a classic vehicle dealer.

Re: Our adventure...
... and I could have done you a nice deal on a practical MG or Rover saloon!
Good to be back Dave. Glad that you and Carole were not hurt. Hope Carole isn't feeling too shaken.

Re: Our adventure...
Thanks. She was on her own ( I was home doing the dishes, making the bed, cooking...
No, not really, just kidding. She is fine though a bit tearful at the time and shaken but not stirred.

Re: Our adventure...
Hi Dave and Carole, so sorry to hear about your bump but so pleased you are OK, as you said metal can be replaced, people less easy.

Re: Our adventure...
Thanks Nick
I forgot to say that the lorry did not stop. I don,t think he was aware of anything
untoward happening.

Re: Our adventure...
Sorry to hear about the accident but pleased you were able to get a replacement at not too big a cost.
Is that the classic car place on the main street in Paignton?
I used to go looking in there when we used to have a caravan down Newton Abbot way, they always had lots of nice MGs in there - mind you, I was driving an MX5 at the time which was also purchased in Paignton

Re: Our adventure...
Yes Steve,
I have looked up the web site and it seems they have been in business since 1963.
Incidently that is the year we came to the UK on our first trip so they would have been there then.
Looking into the show room window is like stepping back in time. It.. IS.. I guess a time machine in a way, quite old fashioned place, I just loved it!

Re: Our adventure...
Sorry to hear this news Dave and glad Carole is OK.
Just to repeat what Lee said, it happened to my bosses wife on the Teso roundabout at Mereway and the trucker didn't stop then either
Maybe lorries need an alarm or such like so that if they do hit something small enough not to notice, the alarm will alert them and signal the polcie or record it somewhere. I'm sure the technology exists!!
Cheers

Thanks Dave..
Kind thoughts go a long long way, you are right, it does seem as though
this is not an uncommon incident.
