Leaking window
I've just had my drivers window fixed - it was rattling on it's way up , then making a cracking noise when it got to the top. This has gone on the whole time I've owned the car, so i guess it's been doing it for years. Was very pleased that it was fixed - until I realised that my previously watertight car is now leaking like crazy and I can't see where it's coming in (top of the window - but not clear where)
Anyone have any idea why it's doing this. Seems to me that the seal should be better now the window is back on its tracks - not worse!!

Re: Leaking window
The problem is that the seals are used to having the window jammed up to them so will have reshaped. Now the window is where it should be, the seals are still dented and not sealing correctly. You need to check which seal it is that's leaking before you do anything though. For example, the most common place is where the window meets the triangle where the door mirror is fitted. Unfortunately, this is the most awkward to do anything with. However, if it's the hood seal, I've got one I bought and never used. Not sure how easy it is to fit, but I'm sure we could work that out for you...
For what it's worth, my window is as bad as yours was. But it doesn't leak so I'm putting up with it. It's only ever up or down (mostly down when I'm driving!) and never in between...
Rich.
PS What's your mileage?

Re: Leaking window
That makes sense - I'm not going to panic about it at the moment as the hood/windows haven't been up at all!!
Mileage is 134'500 - Gotta be some sort of record!

Too damn right - I find myself fluttering my eyelashes and telling him how clever he is whenever he does anything to my car!
The dumb blonde act slipped a bit when i let it slip that I had fitted the new bumper myself, and fixed the big dent in the back - but I retrieved the situtation by saying "It was just like doing gel wraps on my nails!!

Ahh - but if people are nice to me if engine-y bits break - I might share my cling film and Shiatsu technique for achieving perfect fillered bits!
I have to confess - I do know my way around a toolkit - something to do with driving old land rovers! I'm an honours graduate of the 'spit in it, kick it, or give it a hefty belt with a hammer' school of car maintenance!!

No point in me going through it to do the diagnosing - but I'm more than happy to let you do the honours!
