Tax Help
For those in the know, I am picking up the RX8 Sat, but its been untaxed for a month or two, so if I turn up at the post office on Saturday, will they start the disc at the 1st of June or the first 1 July, I'm sure I read somewhere that the earliest you can tax and untaxed car is 2 days before the 1st of the month.
I really don't want to lose I whole month, seems crazy to me.

As far as I know, provided your insurance certificate and MoT cover tomorrow, you should be able to tax it from tomorrow!

I will but....will the tax start on 1st of June, and hence basically be throwing away a month, or will the disc start from 1st of July??

Re: Tax Help
Sorry... My mistake! I meant July. I keep forgetting we are coming to the end of June. Where is the time going?
Go to the Post Office tomorrow and they should tax it from tomorrow. They can't charge you for any of the previous month unless the car was driven.
Is it SORNed at the moment? Of not, it's lucky it wasn't towed away and disposed of. They can do that, even if its parked on your driveway or other private land!
I think I need a rest... Tough week!

Its currently owned by a dealer, the tax was refunded on the 27 May, he has had it on trade plates since. So from the point of the DVLA, the car has been untaxed since that date.
If they said, I had to start the tax on 1st of June, I would be tempted to just drive it home, hide it in the garage, and tax it on Monday, other wise its a waste of money on tax. That said the fine if I got caught would offset that

Don't panic. I've checked with a reliable source! You'll be fine taxing it tomorrow and you'll be covered from tomorrow. In fact, its worked out to be perfect timing for you...
Re: Tax Help
So, I am right about the 2 day rule thing, then? Why the dlva cannot just do it on days, I'll never know.

Re: Tax Help
How many cars have you got on the road at the moment?
Here's two options to avoid paying for June on the tax disc:
1. Book the car in for an MoT somewhere close to home. Drive the car home. Cancel the MoT. Hide the car until Monday when you can buy a tax disc that runs from 1st July.
2. Pick the car up Monday and drive one of the other fleet until then!
DVLA do it all in months so you have to pay for the month you tax if in. I'm sure you can hold off until Monday to save a few quid...

Re: Tax Help
Thats whats going to happen I think, I going to see my friendly garage person tonight to see where my newly spray bumper is for the Panther (he's only a week late, I haven't chased him, as I going to try and blag a discount, as he's late and I helped him out with an issue on a SCU in a TF he was selling), and I will "book" it in for Saturday, and then just get in Monday.
Though to be honest it would have to be a right misery copper to do you for 1 and half days.
My excuse could also be, that I'm picking it up at lunch time, which is true, so all post office will be closed until Monday anyway, and that is the only way I can tax it, when I only have the V5c new keepers section.

Re: Tax Help
Well made it home avoiding plod, only to have a father of one abbeys friends pick his daughter up, he had a right moan about the small number pate, which i was about to replace anyway, he is the typical no slack copper. On the bright side it distracted him from seeing it was untaxed
