I thought putting a cat by pass on a VVC dropped the power as they needed some back pressure???

Correct but this is not a straight through bypass pipe as its a silencer which should be same as mine that provides adequate back pressure to aid the engine performance rather than loosing the top end such as in VVC's.

I have the MK1 version of this, I paid the huge price of 15 pounds inc delivery. I have to say in combination with the Milltek SP, it is fu**ing loud, and is very antisocial , it pops and bangs a goodin, which always scares the be-jesus out of pedestrians:( . At the moment the F is my main car so, I put the cat back on so that my ears don't bleed when I go to work.
With it on, and on short bursts, it is amazing, but I couldn't live with it on a daily basis.

Must be down to your Miltek then as mine wasn't much louder with it fitted, I have the MGOC supersports box fitted. I always got popping and actual flames out of my exhaust but that was down to my 1.9 with the map I had set on at the time

So in summary this type of decat pipe is fine for running with a VVC. But does it do any more than just make the exhaust louder, ie are there performance gains to be had? Also, would it still be necessary to switch the cat back in for emmisions come MoT time?

You will always need the Catalytic convertor to be fitted for your MOT as it is the only way you get through the emission test
It will help the engine 'breathe' by having less of a restriction in the exhaust so it will improve performance, you will only notice an improvement when it is used with other modificationjs such as the rear exhaust box, and induction setup.

As I thought, but just wanted to check whether MEMS3 was better with emissions to a level where you could possibly scrape through.Matt Parker wrote:You will always need the Catalytic convertor to be fitted for your MOT as it is the only way you get through the emission test
Like a Phoenix exhaust and an ITG filter you mean?Matt Parker wrote:It will help the engine 'breathe' by having less of a restriction in the exhaust so it will improve performance, you will only notice an improvement when it is used with other modificationjs such as the rear exhaust box, and induction setup.

Something like that yes.
Do you think you will be ok fitting the pipe then or would you be hanging on till october for some reason for it to be fitted

Nah, won't be doing anything like that on TC for the timebeing. Happy with the impending ZandF remap at the mo. But since you mentioned fitting exhausts... Ollie needs one fitted... When you're ready!

Going to use the one that came off TC, hopefully with Ollie's original cat. It's in good condition and for the purpose of just getting the car back on the road I think it'll be fine.

I think I recall you had an adaptor pipe for the exhuast and I said you would need to change the cat on Ollie for TC's to fit, I have that in my mine so if you want to check the exhaust at some point or send me a pic of TC's old one to confirm and Ollies cat if the flange was on the end of the cat convertor itself and not on a pipe are 90degree to the cat.
