SmS... What does the future hold?
Stewart and I have had a long chat this evening about the current SmS situation and the future of the club in general. Some very interesting ideas have come up and some very good input has been received from a few members. However, before we go flying off in all directions, we need to have a focused approach to it so we don't lose what is currently proving to be a very successful formula.
Although I am against committees and official organisational meetings in general, as it tends to lead to a 'them and us' feel between members (I've seen it happen too many times and seen good clubs ruined by it), the rapid growth of the club in such a short time has meant that we need to strike a happy medium.
For these reasons, a few of us are meeting up later in the week to discuss in detail the best way forward and to formalise plans. As has always been the idea, and perhaps more noticeably than other clubs, the Southmids Sportsters is a club for the members to come together with a common enthusiasm for the country's best loved car marque and to establish a 'family' of friends.
The results of the meeting will be posted here for all members of the club to have their say. This will probably be in a new sub forum that can be used continually for ideas and suggestions regarding all aspects of the club. When required, we can ask for votes using the polling facilities this forum offers.
If there are any comments anyone would like to make or if there's anything you would like discussed at our meeting please post it here. If possible, please do so by 5pm on Thursday evening so that I can prepare notes and ensure that everything is covered.
Thank you all for your continued support and for making Southmids Sportsters the club it has become.
Rich.

Re: SmS... What does the future hold?
Well said Rich. I think the informal approach has been integral in the success that you and Stu have above all people brought to SMS. I also believe that if we stand still we will eventually start to move backwards. Change is a difficult thing to manage whether in business or socially and I would welcome the opportunity to attend the meeting please and volunteer in whatever capacity is required and I am able to.
Service as an "office bearer" is not everyone's cup of tea but transparency is a requirement of any successful operation to prevent the "them and us" scenario you are so right to guard against as it causes nothing but frustration and alienation.
Cheers
Dave

Although I'm a 'newbie', I am more than happy to be involved and help where I can.
